The Alliance Française de Newport adds a fourth class of French to its offer

The Alliance Française de Newport (“AFN”) announced this week that it will be expanding its French classes this month for the first time in three years and offering a fourth class to interested members.

AFN’s mission includes learning French language and culture and the expansion of its course offerings continues this mission through 2022: Historically, course offerings included Beginner French, Intermediate French and “The Salon”, an advanced conversation special group. These classes are now joined by Intermediate French+, a class that focuses on understanding, analyzing and discussing examples of French literature. Registration for all courses is on a first come, first served basis. The deadline for registration is January 31.

The Spring 2022 classes continue the changes started in Fall 2021. AFN has expanded its teaching staff, Dr. Steven Apostolov has been joined by Daniel Kerloch, a Francophone from Brittany, France who teaches at the Joseph H. Gaudet Middle School in Middletown. The classes will have the same objective as always; teach the French language to students in a relaxed, fun and lively way. Dr. Steven Apostolov, French teacher at Rogers High School, will teach the Intermediate + and Salon classes while Daniel Kerloch will teach the Beginner and Intermediate classes.

Andrew Snook, president of the Alliance Française of Newport, welcomed the changes. “Steven and Daniel have considerable experience in teaching French and their willingness to teach our expanded program has already been well received by our student members. Expanding our course offerings is key to keeping our students interested and improving their language skills. »

Beginner and Intermediate classes are limited to 25 students and will start on January 25and and ends May 3. The Intermediate + course will start on January 26and and will end on May 4and. The Salon-Advanced Conversation group will be limited to 15 students and will begin Thursday, January 27 and end Thursday, May 5.

Classes will be delivered in-person throughout the semester, ensuring that classes provide an optimal learning experience. Classes will be socially distanced and all participants will be required to wear masks. Additionally, Beginner, Intermediate, and Intermediate+ courses will adhere to Salve Regina University policies as these courses will be held on campus. All students must be members of the Alliance Française de Newport.

The fees for Beginner French and Intermediate French are $145. ($100 for the class and $45 for a basic APN membership that will extend through August 31, 2022.)

The fee for The Salon – Advanced Conversation Group is $95. ($50 for the spring course and $45 for a basic AFN membership which will extend until August 31, 2022)
